Minnesota's leading immigrant-owned accounting firm · Serving MN & WI since 2006

Twenty years. One office. The same mission.

Founded in 2006, HAR Financial Services grew from a small Minneapolis practice into Minnesota's leading immigrant-owned accounting firm. We were built, deliberately, to be a firm small enough to know your name, but rigorous enough to be trusted with the numbers that keep your business licensed, financed, and compliant.

Not a call center. Not a template. A real person, in a real office, who will pick up the phone and stay on the line until the question is actually answered.

How it started

In 2006, Rashid Mohamoud opened a small accounting practice in Minneapolis with a specific mission in mind: give small business owners — particularly immigrant entrepreneurs building businesses inside a financial system that wasn't built with them in mind access to accounting and bookkeeping support that actually understood their needs.

That mission mattered more than it might sound like on paper. Many of HAR's earliest clients had been underserved or outright ignored by larger firms businesses whose owners spoke English as a second language, whose industries weren't well understood by generalist accountants, or who simply couldn't get a callback from a firm too large to care about a small account. Some had been burned before by advisors who overpromised and then disappeared once the invoice was paid. HAR was built to be the exact opposite of that experience.

The early years

The first clients came almost entirely by referral one business owner telling another that there was finally a firm in Minneapolis that actually explained things, actually returned calls, and actually seemed to care whether their business succeeded.

In those early years, the firm's specialty in healthcare and human services accounting began almost by necessity: several early clients were licensed care providers navigating DHS requirements that no generalist accountant in the area seemed to fully understand. Building that expertise in-house, rather than treating it as a side specialty, set the direction the firm would follow for the next two decades.

How it grew

What started as one founder and a handful of clients became a firm managing payroll for over 600 active businesses, disbursing more than $100 million in annual payroll, filing over 1,000 tax returns a year, and generating more than 9,000 financial reports annually.

The growth didn't come from an advertising campaign. It came from word of mouth inside Minneapolis's business community one satisfied client telling another, year after year, for two decades, in a city where reputation still travels faster than any marketing budget could.

Along the way, HAR earned recognition as Minnesota's leading immigrant-owned accounting firm. That recognition reflects something specific: a firm founded by and for a community that needed a trustworthy financial partner, which grew large enough to serve that entire community well, without ever outgrowing the relationships that built it.

A team that stays

One of the quieter facts behind HAR's growth is staff retention. Client relationships that run past a decade are only possible because the people on the other end of those relationships have stayed just as long.

That continuity — the same bookkeeper, the same payroll specialist, the same person who answers when you call is not an accident of good luck. It's a deliberate choice about how the firm is run, prioritizing long-term relationships over rapid staff turnover, even when it would be easier to run the business the other way.

The moment that defined the standard.

When a major Minnesota payroll processor shut down without warning, 240 of HAR's payroll clients were suddenly at risk of missing a pay cycle a serious problem for any business, and a potentially license-threatening one for the healthcare and human services providers HAR has served since day one.

Zero missed payrolls. Zero compliance gaps.

The team managed the entire migration internally: new processor setup, full data transfer, and compliance verification, for every single client, before a single live payroll went out under the new system. That's not a case study written after the fact to sound impressive it's the standard the firm set for itself in 2006, held up under real pressure two decades later, with real employees' paychecks and real clients' licenses on the line.

Where HAR stands today

Still headquartered at the same Minneapolis office. Still owner-operated. Still answering the phone. Twenty years in, the mission from day one hasn't changed: build financial clarity and trust, one client, one conversation at a time.

The office itself a real, physical space in the middle of the neighborhood it serves is as much a part of that mission as anything in the service agreement. Clients aren't sent to a call center; they're invited to a real place, run by real people, most of whom have been there for years.

Twenty years in, the work has not changed in its essentials. Get the books right. File on time. Take the call when something goes wrong. The clients who hire us once tend to stay because that standard does not change.
